Dr Minh Alexander | August 15, 2016 | Analyses

In spite of government pledges and plans to reduce the number of suicides, data from the ‘National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Homicide by People with Mental Illness‘ shows the annual number of suicides by patients with mental illnesses has been rising for nearly a decade, from 1,453 in 2006 to 1,876 in 2013. Halting the number of suicides by mentally ill patients depends on action to secure adequate reporting.
